A launch that had to look inevitable on day one.
Johnny Depp's rum, launched with a story the trade press could repeat without editing.
The brief
A celebrity spirits launch carries a specific risk: the famous name gets the coverage, and the product becomes a footnote in its own announcement. The launch had to arrive looking like a brand that already existed, not a personality with a bottle attached.
What we did
We wrote the story so the trade press could repeat it without editing it. One claim, a reason to believe it, and a visual language borrowed from heritage spirits rather than celebrity endorsement.
Production was built for a guerrilla schedule with premium output: controlled lighting, tight coverage, and a cut order that let the same footage serve the launch film, the trade edit and the social verticals.
The result
A launch that read as inevitable rather than opportunistic, with a story the category press picked up in the language we wrote it in.
The measure for a celebrity spirits launch is whether the product comes out of the coverage as a brand people can describe. This one did.
The trade press ran the story in the language we wrote it in, which was the point.
